Fit India School Week
Doon Public school (Paschim Vihar) apprised its students, staff and the parents about the benefits and importance of physical and mental health through Power Point presentation and Motivational speech during the ‘Fit India School Week’. The objective was to communicate effectively that health means our physical, mental and social wellbeing. During the pandemic the physical movement and exercise reduced whereas stress levels increased, leading to deterioration in overall health. Solutions to these new health challenges were shared through the presentation. The effectiveness of eating healthy, regular exercise and positive outlook towards life, along with adaptability to the new circumstances and conditions were highlighted in the motivational speech.

Doon Public School (Paschim Vihar); December 2020: In sync with the aforesaid, the school celebrated ‘Fit India School Week’under the campaign ‘Fit India Movement’.
Our honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi urged Indians to make fitness as part of their daily lifestyle, as he launched the Fit India Movement last year. This campaign aims at encouraging people to include physical activities and sports in their daily lives. The aim of this movement was to alter the behaviour from ‘Passive Screen time’ to ‘Active Field time’ and the objective was to develop Sports Quotient among all the students to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, the activities were conducted on virtual platform. A plethora of activities was conducted under ‘Fit India School Week’ from 1st December 2020 to 7th December 2020. The following activities were undertaken for the students of classes 1 to 12, staff and parents: - Day 1 Virtual Assembly – (i) Free hand exercises (ii) Fun and Fitness - aerobics, dance, rope jump, jumping jacks etc. ‘Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do’ Due to the global pandemic, 2020 has been a year where children are confined to their homes. It can prevent them from achieving recommended levels of physical activity which can lead to physical and mental deterioration. Exercise not only changes our body, it changes our mind, attitude and mood. It also helps us to receive abundant cosmic energy, which heals, energizes and rejuvenates each and every cell of our body. Keeping the aforesaid in mind, the virtual assembly was conducted for students of classes 1 to 8 to carry out the fitness regimen, which included free hand exercises, aerobics, dance, rope jump, jumping jacks etc. The event witnessed huge participation by our students, who were looking forward to it with excitement. Their faces lit up with joy when they were data-fancyboxieved of stress and anxiety.
Activity - Virtual Assembly-Common Yoga Protocol

Today, yoga is connecting the world. It connects body and mind. Physical fitness should always be a priority for all and yoga is the best way to keep oneself physically and psychologically strong especially in the present challenging situation.Due to ongoing pandemic, continuous anxiety or stress can manifest many health conditions. Yoga helps to manage the stress. Yoga is also a natural booster which improves resistance and helps build a strong defence mechanism which in turn improves the body’s immunity. Keepingthese benefits in mind, yoga session was conducted on virtual platform for the classes - 3 to 8. The students were first shown a motivational video of our honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on the Importance of Yoga in our lives. After the inspirational video, the students whole heartedly participated and performed some yoga asanas. The advantages of different asanas were also taught to them during the session which increased their flexibility, energy and vitality. The students took part in Virtual Yoga Session with great enthusiasm and it enhanced their mind-body awareness. It also helped the students to understand to incorporate yoga in every day routine to enjoy a happy and healthy life

Brain Games to improve concentration/problem solving capacity – e.g. Chess, Rubik’s cube etc.
In times of Covid-19, ground is replaced with indoors and virtual games. The students of classes 3 to 12 were asked to take up Brain Games Challenge to improve concentration/problem solving capacity. The students played various games such as chess, Rubik’s cube, jigsaw puzzles, sudokuetc. It was a fun filled experience for the students as it allowed them to engage in their favourite indoor games.

Poster making Competition on theme “Hum Fit Toh India Fit” or “New India Fit India”
Poster making competition was held for classes 6 to 8 on the topics- ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ and ‘Fit India Hit India’, respectively. The kids participated with enthusiasm and created great master pieces. The posters gave strong messages to the people to exercise daily, to meditate, data-fancyboxax and think positive. Beautiful illustrations, amazing hues and short slogans not only depicted the creativity of children but also sensitized them and connected them to the environment. It was really overwhelming to see the kids taking part whole heartedly.

Preparing advertisements on “Hum Fit Toh India Fit”, “Emotional and Physical well-being are interconnected” etc.
‘Health is your data-fancyboxation between you and your body’
In another activity, the students of classes 11 and 12 were asked to prepare advertisements on topics such as “Hum Fit Toh India Fit”, “Emotional and Physical well-being are interconnected” to enable the students to showcase their creativity as well as to create awareness.

Debates, Symposium, Lectures etc. about diet & nutrition during pandemic for Students / Staff & Parents
“Healthy does NOT mean starving yourself EVER. Healthy means eating the right food in the right amount”. – Karen Salmansohn A discussion/ lecture on diet & nutrition was organized for classes 9 and 10 wherein the students debunked many myths and discussed about nutritious as well as unhealthy diets. The students shared their own experiences about maintaining the right weight according to their age. It was really an interesting and informative session for teachers and students alike.

Essay/Poem Writing Competition on theme “Fitness Beats Pandemic”
‘Poetry writing and Essay writing competition was organized for the students of classes 3 to 5. The theme for the competition was “Fitness Beats Pandemic”. The students wrote captivating poems and essays exhibiting the significance of a holistic healthy lifestyle. The competition aimed to encourage children to inculcate physical activity and sports in their lives. The students expressed themselves beautifully.

‘Challenging yourself every day is one of the most exciting ways to live’
In sync with the aforesaid, online quiz was conducted for the students of classes 5 to 8 on fitness and sports.Online quiz is a unique way to engage the learners. The students showcased their brilliance and answered the challenging questions enthusiastically.

Virtual challenges for students and teachers
The ‘Fit India School Week’ culminated with gusto as the 2nd last day allowed the students of classes 9 to 12 and school staff to involve themselves in various physical fitness exercises. The students were given virtual challenges such as squats challenge, step-up challenge, spot jogging, jumping jacks, push ups and crunches during online sessions. The teachers also participated in fitness session enthusiastically and encouraged the students. The students & teachers took up the challenges wholeheartedly. Session(s) by motivational speakers for students, parents and school staff
A Power Point Presentation was shown to the students of classes 1 to 12, teachers and parents on the importance of mental, spiritual and emotional health informing the students about the right ways to deal with stress and keep their mind and emotions in check during testing times. It was followed with a motivational lecture on the same theme to inspire everyone to be conscious about their mental, spiritual and emotional health.
Activities for fitness sessions at home involving students and parents -
Parents are a child’s world. For a child to be happy, parents need to be healthy. In sync with the aforesaid, a day of physical activities was dedicated to the parents on the last day of ‘Fit India Campaign’. Students of classes 1 and 2 participated along with their parents during the virtual session.
It started with ‘Walk at Home’ warm up exercises. The focus was on physical fitness and daily regime. When the parents performed various exercises, the students were thrilled and exercised enthusiastically with them. Parents are the ultimate role model for their children. Every word, movement and action, has an effect on them.
For children to eat healthy and remain fit, the parents need to eat right. To encourage the parents to inculcate healthy eating habits in their children, a presentation was shown. The students learned about immunity boosting foods and a balanced diet. The parents were contented that it would prove to be very beneficial during the pandemic. The session concluded with a motivational speech on the theme ‘Eat Right and Be Fit’.

A week dedicated to physical activities and events would sudata-fancyboxy motivate the students and their family to include both yoga and exercise in their regime to live a healthy life. Overall, The Fit India School Week gave a chance to the students, staff and parents to inculcate good dietary habits and create awareness about mental, spiritual and physical health.
