150th Anniversary of the 1857 Uprising
   
 
On the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the '1857 uprising ', a special programme was organised in the school. Mr. Mathew Panamkat, Director, gave a brief account of the political scenario of Delhi during that period and the sequence of events that ended with the deportation of Bahadur Shah, the last Mughal emperor. Dr. Nirmal Kumar, Head of the Department of History at Venkateshwara College , Delhi dwelt on the background of history writing.

He spoke about the various ‘schools’ of history, that view history in differently. He stressed the need to demystify history and to make it more objective. He emphasized the fact that students should get the ' visual feel ' of history, hence visits to monuments and places of historical importance should be an integral part of teaching and learning history.
   
   
 
ECONOMICS WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS
   
 
An Economics workshop for the teachers was conducted on 31 July by the Commerce Faculty of the school. Prof. S.K Aggarwala, Retd. Reader from Rajdhani College , Delhi University was the resource person for the workshop. Twenty six teachers from various prestigious schools of West Delhi participated in the workshop.

Prof Aggarwala enlightened the teachers on the changes in the curriculum and the marking scheme. He emphasised the need for enhancement in knowledge by keeping abreast with the changing times. The workshop proved out to be very informative and the interactive session was helpful as the teachers got a platform to share their experiences and clarify their doubts
   
   
 
WORKSHOP BY N.C.E.R.T
   
 
Workshops by N.C.E.R.T on Training of Master Training of new textbooks of class XII for different subjects was organized in the month of July 2007.

The workshops were attended by Ms Ruby Christopher ( P.G.T English ), Mr Rahul Singh ( P.G.T Maths ), Mr Rahul Tandon ( P.G.T Chemistry ), Ms Monica Manchanda ( P.G.T. Biology ), Mr Manoj Kumar ( P.G.T. Economics ) and Mr Vivek Vohra ( P.G.T Physics ). The areas of focus in these workshops were – changes in syllabus, changes in N.C.E.R.T Textbooks, new experiments ( in sciences ), new teaching techniques ( audio visual aids ) and question paper pattern.
   
   
 
WORKSHOP ON DRUGS AND CRIME
   
 
As a part of the Media Literacy Programme, Ms Monica Manchanda and Ms Suman Chawla teachers of our school attended a training session under the joint partnership of the ‘Indian Express’ and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The workshop highlighted the extent of the abuse in society especially amongst youngsters and threw light upon the signs and symptoms that a parent or a teacher must always look out for in a user. The teachers conducted workshops on ‘Drugs and crime’ for students of classes VI to VIII.
   
   
   
WORKSHOP ON EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
   
 
An interactive session with teachers ‘Early Childhood Education’ was organized by Oxford University Press at Goodley Public School on August 25, 2007. Ms Meena Khokhar, Ms Jyoti Kohli, Ms Harpreet Kaur, Ms Ranjula and Ms Deepa Mahajan attended the workshop.
   
   
   
ENGLISH WORKSHOP
   
 
An English workshop for teachers on ‘Effective English Language Teaching’ was conducted by Ratna Sagar at Doon Public School, Paschim Vihar on 22 September, 2007. More than 40 teachers from prestigious schools in West Delhi attended the workshop. Ms Ila Sehgal, the co-ordinator of the workshop gave the teachers valuable tips on how to make teaching more effective. In an interactive session, teachers talked about their experiences and students’ responses in the class. School Director Mr Mathew Panamkat thanked the guest and her team.
   
   
   
WORKSHOP BY MR RONALD FROM MC DONALD
   
 
The school organized a two days workshop for its Primary students. The resource person was Mr. Ronald from Mc Donald. He was glad to have an interactive session with the little intellectuals. He told the students to take good care of their precious eyes and about the importance of following traffic signals on the road. The students were excited to discuss about the eatables and toys that they enjoy at Mc Donald.
   
   
   
SPICMACAY LECTURE DEMONSTRATION
   
 
A workshop and a lecture demonstration under the aegis of SPICMACAY was organized at our school from 24 to 28 September, 2007 .The five days Madhbani Art Workshop was conducted by Smt. Shanti Devi and was attended by about 50 students of classes 7 & 8, in which they learnt to draw and paint beautiful sceneries in Madhbani art style.

The lecture demonstration on Indian Classical Music- Vocal was conducted by Su. Mita Pandit. A beautiful blend of swar and raag was witnessed by the whole school in a scintillating performance by her. Su. Pandit interacted with the students about raagas and gharanas. Under the SPICMACAY programme students of classes XI and XII watched the movie ‘Jalsaghar’ directed by renowned director Satyajit Ray.
   
   
   
ABACUS EDUCATION
   
 
Our school has Abacus Education which is a unique and time tested education program by the ICMAS teaching through JAPANESE SOROBAN TECHNIQUE. Abacus Education develops the ability to solve arithmetic problems mentally with speed and accuracy without the use of pen, paper and calculator.

The use of Abacus also develops and tremendously increases the skills of concentration, memory power, observation, analyzing skills, self confidence, creative thinking logical and reasoning ability and visualization.
Our students of classes I to IV are highly benefited by this programme. In the ICMAS Championship and Scholarship 2006-2007, our school won 17 awards- 12 State awards and 5 Zonal awards.
P.V.S. Ajay of class II won the State Speed Championshipin 2006.
   
   
   
INTERACTION WITH DR APJ ABDUL KALAM
   
 
50 students of our school had an enriching interaction with former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on July 17. The students and the President put forth questions to one another that led to an enriching discussion. He also spoke about the technological advancements taking place in the country and motivated the students as they are the future of the nation. The students also visited the museum inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
   
   
   
SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL AT NATIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE
   
 
Students of the Biology and Biotechnology Department attended the ‘Science Film Festival’ organized by the National Science Centre on September 4, 2007. They had a guided visit to the ‘Galleries’and watched the movie ‘Human Genome Project’.
   
   
   
VODOFONE DELHI HALF MARATHON
   
 
Fourteen enthusiastic students of the school were a part of the exciting Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon. They participated in the seven km long ‘ Great Delhi Run’ on October 28 as part of a large contingent of students from Times NIE Schools.
   
   
   
GUIDED BUS TOUR
   
 
A guided bus tour to the places in Delhi related to the ‘Revolt of 1857’ was organized by the ‘Indian Express’ in partnership with INTACH for the students of class III and IV on October 27 and 28. The students were taken to Humayun’s Tomb, Khooni Darwaza, Red Fort, St. James Church, CommemorativeI column, Magazine gate, Dara Shikoh’s Library, Kashmiri Gate and the Flagstaff Tower . The tour ended by a ‘March’ from Bara Hindu Rao Hospital to ‘Mutiny Memorial’

The teacher guide explained the importance of the above said places. The students were deported to the era of ‘1857 Revolt’ termed ‘Sepoy Mutiny’ by the English. The students were enthralled and benefited by this educational excursion.
   
   
   
VISIT TO APOLLO HOSPITAL
   
 
Students of the Biology and Biotechnology Department along with their teachers got an opportunity to attend a seminar ‘Guiding Young Minds’ organized by The Apollo Hospital on August 23, 2007.

A movie “ Touching Lives” was screened followed by a presentation on evolution of Medicine by Dr. Anupam Sibal. Another presentation on ‘ Life as Doctor and Emerging Career Trends’ was given by reputed doctors followed by an open House Session wherein questions were put forth by the students The students were then taken on tour to the OPD, MRI, Radiology, Dialysis, Endocrinology Departments of the Hospital. The visit to the hospital was fruitful to the students who were enlightened with the emerging careers in the field of medicine.
   
   
   
BOOK WEEK AT DOON PUBLIC SCHOOL
   
 
Book Week was celebrated in the school from July 30 to August 4 with great zeal. During the week the entire school was abuzz with various activities associated with books and reading. Junior students participated in activities like 'Enact a fairy tale character', 'Spin-a-yarn', and 'English Recitation'.

The senior students showed keen interest in activities like 'Poster Making', 'Extempore', 'Twist in the tale' and 'Book- Review'. Chief Guest Dr Anupa Lal, a well known writer of children's books, who inaugurated the function was all praise for the students' efforts. Throughout the week the school looked like a Reader's Paradise with students thronging to the stalls of Scholastic who had put up a Book Fair.
   
   
   
ELECTION AND INVESTITURE CEREMONY
   
 
Doon Public School, Paschim Vihar conducted a live demonstration of the election process to nominate and elect the school Head boy, Head girl and the other members of the students council. The election process was an opportunity for students to learn about nominations, manifestoes, canvassing and ballot papers. The students exercised their franchise on 23 August, 07.

The investiture ceremony was held on 11 October, 07. The badges of honour were presented by Vice Chairperson Mrs Geetha Vasan, Manager Mr Sarat Chandran and Principal Mrs Vandana Sachdev. Head boy Rajat Nagpal and Head girl Aastha Thakur were sworn along with other members. Mr Mathew Panamkat, Director administered the oath. The members of the students council promised to dedicate their services to uphold the glory and fame of the school.
   
   
   
FASHIONOMATICS
   
 
‘Fashionomatics’ a Fashion Extravaganza was organized by the Fashion Studies Department of Doon Public School on December 1, 2007 in the school premises. The show was based on the themes ‘Oorja & Bohemain’. Having switched roles for a day, students, teachers and tiny tots along with their mothers walked the ramp in their most stylish attires.

The embellishments on the dresses of the models were the handiworks of the students of the Fashion Studies Department. The judges for the show were Ms Sonali Pal and Ms Ambika Magotra distinguished guests from the Pearl Academy of Fashion. Navepreet Kaur was judged as the Best Female Model and Aman Tayal walked away with the title of the Best Male Model. The judges were all praise for the marvelous work done by the Fashion Studies Department of the school.
   
   
Our Math Lab (The Ist Digital Math Lab in India) creates an environment for student-centric explorative (learning by doing). It inculcates learning through ‘Applied Reasoning’.
